Progression Creator

The progression Player is a cool tool where you can apply your comping ability, licks, scales and chords.
However, the Progression Creator is where we create these progressions.
Now, if you’ve spent a bit of time studying music, you’re more likely to be shocked by the zany colour scheme of this window than by anything else (which I will change if I get too many complaints!)
• The buttons at the top are roman numerals which are the spelling of a major scale… If I was C, II would be D, bII would be Db and V would be G. These are known as the degrees. They will be your chords.
• The second row of buttons are your chord types. Now, these are written in a musical short-hand called nomenclature. If you hover your mouse above any of these, a proper chord description will appear under the buttons. After choosing a chord, a basic chord type commonly associated with that chord will be added. Then you can go ahead and choose what chord type you like for it.
• The little red hand – (as seen in the last bar on beat 1) will go wherever you click in the bar and your chord choices will position themselves at that point.
Also, you can see that I can enter a chord on any of the rhythm slashes on the stave.
Whenever I choose a chord type from the second row, there a little description of the chord that appears on the right of the clear button. After a time, you will start to associate the symbols with the chord types.
Nomenclature is a very quick way of writing down chords and jazz players are supposed to be familiar with reading it.
Now, you can create any progression you like – from heavy jazz chords to the progression behind Swedish rockers Europe’s “Ninja” solo.
